Medical Complications 



Anorexia Nervosa

  • Very slow heart rate and low blood pressure
  • Increased risk of heart failure and death
  • Decrease of bone density (osteoporosis) , brittle bones
  • Muscle loss and weakness
  • Dehydration, which can lead to kidney failure
  • Edema 
  • Fainting and overall weakness of the body
  • Dry skin/ hair, hair loss
  • Anemia 
  • Constipation from dangerous caloric restriction
  • Stunt of growth failure in adolescents 
  • Decreased body temperature
  • Amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle)
  • Infertility



Bulimia 
  • Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances

  • Inflammation and rupture of the esophagus
